Get to Know the City Staff: Jason Poncio

Posted to City of Pilot Point News on April 4, 2023 at 2:32 PM by Wendy Haun

All Jason Poncio wants to do is to make a difference.

Since rising through the Public Works Department, Poncio, who now serves as the Parks Superintendent after starting off as a Street Tech, has made great strides improving the outdoor spaces in Pilot Point.

Jason Poncio for Website“After I get done with maintenance, I can look at it and go, ‘Wow, I made this so beautiful.’ I feel like I’m making a difference,” he said.

In the last few years, the Parks Department has gotten new baseball scoreboards at Groff Park donated by Rex Real Estate, partnered with Pilot Point ISD on refurbishing the tennis courts and adding pickleball, upgraded the splash pad and benches at Old City Park and added exterior lighting throughout the city facilities.

As Pilot Point continues to grow, so will the need for public parks and outdoor spaces. Developments Lakeview Estates and Windrose have dedicated land to future city park spaces. Poncio is thinking big for the future, though, hoping to add on to sports facilities, put in a skate park and host tournaments.

“We’re looking to be able to host more community-based activities within our parks,” he said.

In his free time, Poncio is also active in the entertainment business. He had a band in the late 1990s, which experienced regional success in the Houston area. He has recently released his second solo album, TimeLine 20, which has more than 70,000 plays on Spotify.
